The Azimut Benetti Group is the embodiment of the design, creative and craftsmanship capabilities that make the words Made in Italy universally understood. «Everyone looks to us. Many copy us. It’s a huge responsibility, and it spurs continuous renewal in terms of design, technology and services», states the founder and President Paolo Vitelli, back from the Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement, where he was honoured him with the Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to the shipbuilding industry.
Since 1969 Italian style has seduced the world on board the boats carrying the Azimut Yachts brand, which include planing yachts ranging from 10 to 37 metres, as well as Benetti-branded vessels, semi-planing and displacement megayachts that can reach up to 100 metres. Together they offer Forty-five models, built in six shipyards in Avigliana (To), Savona, Viareggio, Livorno, Fano (Pu) and Itajai (Brazil), in addition to the 32 that are planned for the next three years.
It’s a story of success and innovation, but above all it’s the story of a family that was able to retain ownership and independence right through to the second generation. «We have faced the crisis with the technological, financial and human resources that we’ve built up over 40 years of being in business by following the principle: rich company, poor family. We’ve also changed the managerial culture, going from an impersonal, automotive style of management to one that is typical of medium-sized enterprises, where the management and owners work together in complete harmony», explains Vitelli.
