As Lev Tolstoj wrote in Anna Karenina: «All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow». Italy’s number one in interior and exterior lighting appliances, iGuzzini has been stressing this for almost 60 years. Light is the living part of objects, buildings, and relationships; it is the combination of technology and culture, wellbeing and sustainability. In other words, it is the primary environmental quality factor. This vision has allowed the company to become one of Europe’s leading companies in this field, with over 1,200 employees, 16 subsidiaries across the world, and a 2014 consolidated turnover of 205.5 million euro. A true centre of excellence dedicated to research, design, and management of lighting in its different forms; an international community that serves architecture according to the philosophy of «social innovation through lighting».

«Since 1959, we have been promoting a positive living philosophy through light and a responsible use of energy», said Adolfo Guzzini, Chairman of the company and of Fimag, the family financial holding company that controls also F.lli Guzzini. «Lighting plays an active part in society. This is why we are committed to developing products and solutions that write a story projected into the future. All this while attracting and supporting society’s most positive, scientifically and ethically advanced impulses».

This commitment has been taken seriously at the headquarters in Recanati (Macerata), as demonstrated by the Light Laboratory, a 6,000 square metres building that houses design and research offices, meeting rooms, and training spaces, as well as a showroom and a 250-seat auditorium. Passive temperature and natural light control, the use of renewable sources, and room comfort are some of the distinctive features of this facility designed by Maurizio Varratta. Integrated in the industrial complex, this facility meets the highest of sustainability and energy efficiency criteria (-30% consumption), as certified by the Sustainable Building Challenge Scale of the iiSbe institute. This is where iGuzzini develops state of the art lighting control and customisation systems, intervening in the creation of optical instruments, qualification of sources, and environment management interfaces. «Light generates innovation through integrated technological, industrial, and design systems», explained the chairman. «Our solutions are the result of a consolidated synergy between the international players involved in the project and the best technology producers».

Giò Ponti, Renzo Piano, Gae Aulenti, Piero Castiglioni are only some of the big names that have joined physicians, sociologists, physicists and researchers from major universities in the development of iGuzzini products. This multidisciplinary knowledge results in true jewels of hi-tech design, such as Laser Blade, the award-winning range for interiors, or Trick, the graphic lighting system for exteriors, the first in the top ten ranking of the most interesting products at the 2014 Light + Building trade show, according to Lux Review magazine.
